Oodgeroo Noonuccal (/ ˈ ʊ d ɡ ə r uː ˈ n uː n ə k əl / UUD-gə-roo NOO-nə-kəl; born Kathleen Jean Mary Ruska, later Kath Walker) (3 November – 16 September ) was an Aboriginal Australian political activist, artist and educator, who campaigned for Aboriginal rights. Noonuccal was best known for her poetry, and was the first Aboriginal Australian to publish a book of en: Denis Walker, Vivian Walker. An ore-carrying railway line ran between Greenvale and Queensland Nickel Industries (QNI) processing plant at Yabulu, approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Townsville from to History. O’Sullivan’s mantelpiece must be very crowded as among his notable achievements he has won a Prime Minister’s Literary Award () and a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (), and has won the NZ Book Awards, in its various forms, three times for fiction and three for : Joe Coates.

This website is dedicated to Queensland poetry, and to Queensland poets who flourished between and Back then, Queensland was under populated, undereducated and under resourced.

But more than Queensland authors published books of poetry in that first years. If you buy one book only on early Queensland poetry, buy this one. One of the Queensland poets included in that book was Shawn O'Leary, who was born in Ipswich, in He was educated at the University of Queensland, and became a freelance journalist, before enlisting in the second AIF, and serving in the Middle East, North.

With a rich history of poetry culture and poets, Old Qld Poetry is a site that supports Queensland poetry, and to Queensland poets who flourished between and Community writers’ groups based in Queensland include Society of Women Writers QLD, Bush Curlews, Carindale Writers’ Group, and the Fairfield Writers Group.

In Queensland, however, the position is slightly different. Untilessentially all the Queensland poets who published books of verse were white, and, like most poets, they were for the most part concerned about themselves and perhaps their immediate.
